For the umpteenth time, Teacher Riley told me to head on over to Principal Jones’ office. I walked right out the front door and never stepped foot in school again.

Ten years later, Principal Jones and his wife, Ann, made dinner reservations at my restaurant. I greeted them at the door and said, “I’m glad we can finally make this appointment work.”

Without missing a beat, Principal Jones said, “Ahh shit, I never thought I’d ever have to see you again.”

I laughed and showed them to their table. As they took their seats, I said, “Maybe you’ll become a regular in my office now. But this time, I’ll be the one getting paid for these visits.”

Principal Jones chuckled and nodded, but I could tell he wasn’t amused. Neither he nor his wife ever returned.
