In the fourth grade, I was a Presbyterian.

My parents became Lutherans when I was in fifth grade.

By Christmas, I was Lutheran too.

Worst year of my life.

The Sunday School had no substance.

By Christmas of sixth grade, I was back to Presbyterian.

People ask me if it’s awkward—my parents and I going to different churches.

“Doesn’t matter,” I always tell them. A man has to stand up for his beliefs, no matter the cost.

You don’t want to follow a false Christ.

Besides, the two churches were across the street from each other.

It wasn’t like I had to find a new ride.
