“Pearl, I hear you got a deal with that cigar company. They’re gonna put your art on their label, right?”

“Yup, had to go commercial. Couldn’t pay rent with just the commissioned paintings.”

“You already have the artwork done or are you working on something new for it?”

“Working on something right now. It was a personal project but I figured it’d work for the label.”

“Can I see it?”

“Sure, it’s in the studio.”

Pearl opens the door to her backyard studio, filled with natural light.

“A self-portrait…really, Pearl?”

“Don’t you like it?”

“It’s a bit vain don’t you think—trying to plaster your face everywhere?”

“Who knows, maybe I’m just ahead of my time.”
