“I ate lunch with Toni the other day,” said Jared., trying and failing to muffle the excitement in his voice.”

“Yeah?” replied Jason.

“The best conversation man. She’s so interesting. You know she goes spear fishing with her dad in the summers?”

“Kind of a badass then, huh.”

“But like a smart one. And that fiery hair dude. With those happy green eyes…”

“You sound like you’ve fallen for her, man”

“I’m not mad about it…pretty sure she winked at me when before she left for class too.”

“Winked? Like in what way?”

“Whadda ya mean? Is there more than one way to wink?”

“For sure, like, there’s the sexy wink but then there’s the platonic I’m going to wink at this nice guy who’s a great friend cause he’s so cute in a goofy, safe, never-gonna-get-close-to-this kind of way. You know, a friend wink…not a friendly wink.”

“Really? Ahh man, you’ve got me second guessing this now. I was thinking about maybe asking her out next weekend.”

“Like, as friends?” Jason smirked.

“Shut up Jase.” Jarrod’s face turned a shade closer to the color of Toni’s hair. “I think it was the first wink…the sexy one.”

“For your sake, I hope so.”

“You don’t care.”

“You’re right. And I was gonna tell ya. You might wanna give up now. I’ve already got a date with Toni this Saturday.”
