I called my cousin two days ago. Via landline. We watched the news together. Live coverage of a car chase. Seven minutes into the chase, the fleeing vehicle took a sharp right. And then another. “That’s my neighborhood,” said my cousin. “I didn’t recognize it at first from the aerial view.”

The police cruisers cut the car off from every side. “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” cried my cousin.

Big crash. Landline dead.

It could have been a funeral, but thankfully I’m only planning a hospital visit today.
